Eating Vegan on a Disney Cruise

This past February, I had the wonderful opportunity to go on my first cruise for my husband's birthday. And better yet, we got to escape the cold Chicago winter for awhile!

Going into this trip, I knew there were not going to be many vegan opportunities, but I was impressed with the variety that was offered! But, before we dive in too far, I do want to mention that eating vegetarian is much easier than eating fully vegan, There are lots of food items made with dairy but not meat. So, if you are vegetarian, you will find more options. To all us vegans out there though, it takes some extra work and you will probably have to talk to some of the staff, but you will not be underfed!

All food in the common areas of the ship are included in your cruise package and are served buffet style. Dinner is a seated meal with a structured time, but also included. There are a few options that do cost extra like any snacks at the kiosks and the adult-only restaurants, Palo and Remy. (Note: we went to neither of these places, but have heard great things about them.) I did find that the most accommodating areas are the dining rooms (not the buffets) as they have chefs who can modify meals to suit preference and allergies.


  • Fresh fruit: whole apples, bananas, pears, and oranges

  • Pieces of fruit: watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, grapes, mango, pineapple

  • Oatmeal cooked in water with your choice of toppings:

  • dried cranberries, raisins, brown sugar, dried pineapple, variety of nuts and seeds

  • Steamed rice

  • Hash-browns and skillet potatoes

  • Toast and bagels with jam

  • Juice, coffee, and water


  • Fresh bread

  • Potatoes in many forms

  • Beans and rice

  • Tofu in many forms


Be sure to tell your server of any food allergies or dietary restrictions. Of course, ask for salads with no cheese and which dressings have no dairy (many are fruit-based and do not). Some of the dinners we had which were naturally vegan:

  • Tofu and couscous

  • Cucumber roll

  • Falafel plate

  • Barley cakes in vegetable broth

  • Portabella mushroom in split pea sauce

  • Black beans and rice
